Young people & the outdoors

Belgium's national park system is young but its youth-outdoor tradition is deep. Scouting is one of the country's largest youth movements, with FOS and Open Scouting running weekend camps and survival skills in the Ardennes for over a century. Natuurpunt and the Walloon nature centres deliver school nature-education programmes, and a growing number of bos- en natuurklassen (forest classes) bring primary children outdoors for full weeks of curriculum-based learning.
